Beginner Squad

The beginner squad is provided as a pathway to help our juniors move from Hot Shots lessons to Saturday Junior competition. We provide an environment where they can learn the necessary skills to be competitive in weekend competitions. The squad will have a large number of children, predominantly between 9-12 years of age, who are keen to take their tennis to the next level.

The squad emphasises the important aspects of competition tennis. The kids will learn to score and compete with good sportsmanship. Plenty of games-based drills, lots of hitting, and a general emphasis on basic technical checkpoints are all incorporated to help the kids develop.

Tennis can be a relatively isolated sport, so by participating in a squad environment, your child can make friends, have lots of fun, and improve their confidence. It is common for the kids to be grouped with others in their Saturday Junior competition team - this will also help build the comradery within their team.

The beginner squad is held at the Asbury Street venue from 4.30-5.30pm on Friday afternoons, and acts as a great chance to have a hit with your teammates prior to competing with them the next day. 

For those who haven’t yet built up the skills or confidence to compete on the Saturday, this squad is a great stepping-stone for the kids to familiarise themselves into a similar environment. 

Intermediate Squad

The intermediate squad can be used as a stepping-stone to continue building through the ranks of local competitions. This squad consolidates the learnings from the beginner squad and starts to incorporate more advanced tactics and strategies. The intermediate squad is a step up in intensity, although still offers a very enjoyable environment where juniors can continue to develop their skills alongside their friends. Typically, this squad is for players who are competent in serving, rallying and scoring. Usually, these players have competed in multiple seasons of Saturday morning competition and are willing to pursue their tennis goals further. 

The intermediate squad is run at the Asbury Street venue on a Wednesday night from 5.30-6.30pm.

Advanced Squad

The advanced squad continues to challenge the highest achieving local players. It introduces a higher intensity than previous squads due to the more complex and advanced drills. This squad demands a higher level of self-accountability, as players are expected to push and represent themselves in a positive and enthusiastic way. The drills in this squad are designed for players who have confidence in all aspects of their tennis game. The themes provided in each session will help develop the tools necessary to implement the most important strategies in our game and provide a sound base to combat the difficult psychological challenges faced throughout competition play. 

The Advanced Squad is run at the Asbury Street venue on Friday nights from 5.30-7pm.

Performance Squad

We are proud to offer a high-performance level squad in Ocean Grove. This squad is aimed at elite players that are committed to advancing their tennis to their full potential. It has attracted players that compete in the highest levels of competition locally, state-wide, and nationally. 

This performance squad offers a very intense and serious environment. It will provide high achieving players an opportunity to fine tune every aspect of their game. There will be a focus on the more intricate aspects of professional tennis. The drills and activities provided will reflect the important tactical and strategic elements of the game. 

The Performance Squad runs at the Shell Road venue on Friday nights from 5.45-7.45pm.
